Kheema Mattar is an Indian ground goat curry with spices green peas.This delicious preparation is made commonly during Ramzan month.When I was a kid,I used to love this preparation from my mom and is probably the only way I ate goat meat.
Preparation time:30 minutes
Serves:6-8
Ingredients:
1 pound ground goat meat
1 cup diced onions
3 medium ripe tomatoes diced
1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 sprig curry leaves
salt to taste
2 teaspoons ginger garlic paste
1/3 cup peas(fresh or frozen)(I used frozen peas)
2 teaspoons red chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
1/2 teaspoon my garam masala
1/2 teaspoon black pepper powder
1 tablespoon oil
1 cup chopped cilantro
Procedure:
1.Heat oil in a pan and add the curry leaves and let splutter,then add the onion,turmeric and salt and saute until onions get translucent(about 4-5 minutes)
2.Add the ginger garlic paste and saute for about 2 minutes on a medium flame until the raw smell of it goes away.
3.Add the diced tomatoes and saute until soft.(If using fresh peas add them before the tomato and saute for 3-4 minutes)
4.Add the spice powders and mix well for about 1 minute.
5.Add the minced meat and mix well until the curry and the meat are combined.
6.Add water and peas and cover and let cook for about 10 minutes.Adjust salt and spices and lastly before turning off the stove add the cilantro and turn off.
Tips:
Add more spices as per your taste if you like.
This preparation goes excellent with roti,naan or any kind of rice like biryani,pulao,jeera rice etc.
You can also uses this in puff pastry to make kheema puffs or in parathas to make kheema paratha.
You can also add mint leaves if you like.
If using store bought garam masala ,if it is milder you can use upto 1 teaspoon depending on the spice level and reduce the amount of coriander powder used(the store bought ones usually contain coriander powder in it).
