Oatmeal

Oats are a low glycemic and high fiber grain with high amounts of manganese and are low in calories. They help keep your blood sugar stable due to the high fiber content.Oatmeal can be prepared in many ways. This recipe is a simple and healthy way to start your day.You can also eat this when you are not very hungry but need nutrients in your food. They are also known to be heart healthy and known to reduce cholesterol.
Preparation time:20 minutes
Serves:1

Ingredients:
1/4 cup steel cut oats/quick cooking oats
pinch of salt
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 cup chopped walnuts+craisins(dried cranberries)+pumpkin seeds

Procedure:
1.If using steel cut oats I recommend soaking them in 1 cup warm water with a pinch of salt overnight to speed up the cooking process. Once soaked they can be reheated in the morning until they cook. Quick cooking oats can be directly added to 1 cup of boiling water with a pinch of salt for about 10 minutes on medium flame until cooked.

2.This step is optional, if you don't like milk you can omit this step. Milk gives a creamier oatmeal. Once the water has almost evaporated and the oatmeal has come together add the milk and continue to cook the oats until it comes together, about 6 minutes.

3.Transfer to a bowl, sprinkle the nuts and drizzle honey on top and serve.

Tips:
Do not heat the honey, it is toxic to heat honey.
You can also use other nuts like raisins, slivered almonds etc.
Maple syrup, brown sugar, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, blueberries, apple, banana etc can be added to get different flavors.
Some types of oats have different cooking times, please follow the package instructions if different.
