Cranberry sauce is often eaten in conjunction with turkey for Christmas or Thanksgiving in the United States and Canada. There are myriad of variations of this recipe the most simplest being the cranberries boiled in sugar syrup.Preparation time:25 minutes
Serves:6
Ingredients:
1 12oz bag of cranberries
1 1/2 cups sugar(adjust as per sweetness desired)
1 cup orange juice
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
zest of half an orange
Procedure:
1.In a medium flame take the orange juice, spices and sugar in a saucepan and stir until sugar is completely dissolved.
2.Add the cranberries and let cook until the cranberries are soft(about 10 minutes). If you wish you can press the cranberries against the wall of the saucepan to mash them slightly.Remove from stove and let cool completely.
Tips:
Cranberries can be very tart or less tart,so the sweetness level will need to be adjusted as per your choice.
This is traditionally served with Turkey for thanksgiving,I will also post a recipe with Brie cheese and cranberry sauce.
Other variations of this include ginger, maple syrup, slivered almonds can be added.
