Also called as Sabsige Soppu(dill leaves) in Kannada,this is a dish that I heard that is
made in karnataka from my mother in law,I've never had it or made it before. I
added Dosakay(apple cucumber) to it along with Tomato.Though it is
traditionally made with moong beans I decided to make it with toor dal just
because toor dal goes well with dosakay.
Preparation time:30 minutes
Serves:6
Ingredients:
2 bunches dill(stalks removed and chopped)
1 cup Toor dal
1 large Tomato chopped

1 small apple cucumber(2.5 inches diameter)
3 cloves Garlic minced
1 teaspoon grated Ginger
1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
dash of black pepper
6 green chili minced

1/2 medium onion diced
Salt to taste
1 spring Curry leaves
1 teaspoon Cumin seeds

1 teaspoon ghee

Procedure:
1. Heat ghee in a pressure cooker and cumin seeds, mustard seeds and curry leaves

2.Add ginger, garlic, green chili, onion and turmeric and sauté
for a minute.Add the apple cucumber and saute for 2 minutes.
3.Add the dill leaves and saute for 1 minute.
4.Add the chopped tomatoes and saute for 1 minute.
5. Add washed dal, Pour in three cups of water and add salt.Pressure cook for 4 whistles.When the steam has gone, add the ground black
pepper and stir.
Tips:
This goes well with rice and ghee.
If your tomatoes are not tangy enough you can add 1/4
teaspoon of tamarind for a little tanginess.
