Chepala Pulusu

Chepala Pulusu is a famous Andhra Recipe.I have used wild atlantic salmon in my recipe, you can use tilapia or mahi mahi as a substitute. This recipe originated from Nellore,so this is also called as nellore chepala pulusu.
Preparation time:40 minutes
Serves:6

Ingredients:
10-two inch pieces of salmon
1/2 cup Onions chopped
2 medium Tomato chopped
1/2 teaspoon Tamarind paste
1 teaspoon Red chilli powder
 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
 salt to taste
1 tablespoon  oil
1/2 teaspoon methi powder
1 teaspoon ginger garlic paste
 1 teaspoon garam masala/fish masala
1 stem curry leaves

Procedure:
1.In a pan heat the oil and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds and curry leaves and let splutter.

2.Add the onion, turmeric and green chilies saute for 5 minutes on medium flame.

4.Add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2 minutes.

5.Add tomatoes and let cook until soft.

6.Add 3 cups of water, tamarind, garam masala, salt and red chili powder and let come to a boil.

7.Add the fish pieces to the pan and cover with the lid and let cook on high flame for 12 minutes.(if you have time you can let it simmer on lower flame for around 20 minutes until your fish is done).Once the fish is cooked add the methi powder and give it a light stir and let stand for 1 minute and turn off the stove.

Tips:
The cooking times of various fish varies, Salmon needs around 12-15 minutes to cook. Tilapia  and mahi mahi take around 20-25 minutes to cook so you have to simmer it in the sauce for their respective cooking times.
